In 2018, Tiernan Alexander and Tim Eads started Tuft the World out of a shared obsession with rug tufting. They also realized that getting started meant piecing together scattered tools, conflicting tutorials and machines that weren't designed for the craft. Six years later, we've shipped to 120+ countries, hosted TuftCon (the first tufting convention) and built a community of 10,000+ tufters. As the original tufting source, we've served thousands of makers worldwide. Here's what you can expect when you buy from us.
Unlike generic craft suppliers, our Philadelphia-based team developed every product with the tufting process in mind. Each piece is designed to work with the others, so you don't have to piece together supplies from several vendors:
We're proud to give every customer extensive after-sales support. We build for repairability, so your tools are designed to last for years.
We've helped turn rug tufting from a niche industrial process into a global maker movement. Our learning resources include:
We put a strong emphasis on inclusivity and accessibility. Together with quality supplies, this has helped thousands of people start small businesses, develop new artistic practices or simply find a fulfilling creative outlet. Makers around the world can get the same supplies and education that launched the modern tufting renaissance in Philadelphia. Our community shares techniques, inspires each other and pushes the boundaries of the medium.
Our work has been recognized by media outlets and cultural institutions:
You might be taking your first steps into hand tufting or be a seasoned artist looking for the best supplies and latest techniques. Either way, we're here to give you the expertise, quality and support to help your projects succeed.
